Meet these proud Canadian farmers

Meet Mark and Christine Lass from Ontario

Hailing from New Hamburg (about 15 minutes east of Stratford), the Lass family has been farming these fertile lands for almost 150 years. Their 300-acre farm produces wheat, corn, soybeans and hay, and raises grass-fed beef cattle and pigs. Aside from farming, Christine is an accomplished potter who creates unique pieces in her studio—a renovated 160 year-old barn. Mark and Christine have two children, Madeline and Joe.

"Choosing products that are made with home-grown wheat enables your Canadian farmers to practice sustainable agriculture, enabling the availability of good wholesome foods for you and future generations."

Meet Zach and Mary Olthuis from Alberta

The Olthuis family farm was started in the 1920s by their grandfather who literally cleared the land by hand. The farm was passed to his sons who expanded the acreage immensely over the years. Today, Zach and his brother Seth each farm 1000 acres of wheat and canola. Zach and Mary oversee more than just the crops. They have two small children, Levi and Kate. Without a doubt, the Olthuis farm is a family affair.

"Canadians wish to eat healthy as well as support local economy. By purchasing Country Harvest products they are supporting Canadian grain farmers across this country who rely on their loyalty. Country Harvest uses only home grown top grade wheat which is something everyone can feel pleased to feed their families along with themselves."

Meet Seth and Jill Olthuis from Alberta

Located in Neerlandia (about 160 km northeast of Edmonton), the Olthuis family farm is 2000 acres of prime wheat, canola and pea-growing land. Neerlandia is steeped in history and was established by Dutch immigrants who settled the land around 1900. When Seth and Jill aren’t tending the farm, they are caring for their three children, as well as helping in many community and charity activities.

“We think it is important for Canadians to purchase products made with home grown wheat because it’s important to support Canadian businesses. Canada has high standards for food production and this means businesses will choose to use quality home grown grains for food products. We feel that we know that the ingredients in our bread are locally grown and by choosing Country Harvest bread, we are eating healthy and helping the environment at the same time.”
